Before introduction of a worldwide multicentre trial introducing a new technique; the TaTME tremendous effort has put in the safety and quality assessment. A Delphi round has just been completed amongst experts in TaTME to highlight all aspects of the procedure. An assessment tool focussing on each different step of the procedure is developed to score the quality of the procedure. A secure website has been generated to collect and review all data; video, pathology and MRI centrally. Using this we will avoid any discussion of quality and procedure uniformity.
The protocol is currently being reviewed at the ethical department of the VU University Medical Centre and hopefully we can start in the expert centers before the end of this year. More then 30 centers all over the world have registered for participation. The COLOR-III study group is an unique global collaboration of surgeon trying to improve surgery for rectal cancer.
